Brief Summary of June 16 2010 Meeting

Hi everyone - just an update re: Money Math (no response needed)

Wednesday, our meeting included the 1-year MBA students and Tom Fujimura, Executive Director of Instruction at the South Bend Community School Corporation.

Tom provided some very important insight about the math instruction needs in classrooms today, particularly about engaging kids in multiple ways. He discussed the importance of balanced, inquiry-based instruction which places less emphasis on the teacher teaching and more emphasis on creating a more project-based teaching environment that leverages the kids' natural curiosity.

The 1-years are now having a look at some potential activities that they can potentially undertake as a summer project in preparation for the Fall pilots, including:

+inventory each lesson: what resources are needed
+develop lesson cards for each lesson (e.g., script for the student teachers)
+create business plan template for Lesson 6
+possibly pilot testing the lessons

Cindy, Sher, Mary, Aditi, Mark, Nick: next meeting is next week - I can't meet Wed. - can we go Tuesday June 22 at noon instead of Wed. ?

thanks
